I’ve been waiting patiently for months and finally, this Saturday, July 16th, I will set my eyes on an event in downtown Selinsgrove that I have been waiting to attend since 2008. It seems every year that the Hops, Vines and Wines Festival occurred in downtown Selinsgrove, I had a prior engagement. Oh, believe me, I tried to get out of them, but it just wasn’t possible for a married guy with kids. Eight years later, here we are. I have my tickets…which were not easy to get. See, this festival is sold out in minutes, sometimes seconds after they go on sale online.
I woke up early on a crisp May Saturday morning and opened my laptop. Before I even put my contacts in or brushed my teeth, I was logged on hitting refresh, waiting for that “tickets available” link. I bet that I made record time purchasing them, celebrating around the house like I just caught the winning Super Bowl Touchdown.
This Saturday I will be a part of a special fraternity – a few thousand of my best friends sampling craft beer from some of the best and undiscovered brewers in the area and beyond the Susquehanna River Valley.
So why do I love craft beer so much? Well for starters – Craft beer tastes better. The number one reason why I drink craft beer is because it tastes much better than the “beer water” that is mass-produced and mass-marketed by big beer companies. Craft beer has a better taste because brewers spend their time focusing on the quality of their beer. Craft beer also has more Alcohol. Craft beers come in many shapes and sizes, but one thing remains the same, they all pack a punch. My final reason is because there are simply more choices! From a bold hop to a malty ale or a crisp fruit to dark and roasty, there is always a craft beer to fit my mood. So as I partake in a few cold ones this Saturday in Downtown Selinsgrove at Central PA’s best beer and wine festival, remember- LIFE IS SHORT, DRINK GOOD BEER. PENNSYLVANIA BEER!
I’ll Drink to That!
